Greetings in the Name of Christ: I look forward with anticipation to October 8th, the day I begin my ministry with you at St. Paul’s. Geri and I appreciated the warm welcome we received at the trial sermon weekend and look forward to our time together this fall as we get to know each other. My duties as pastor of Linfield United Church of Christ are now complete. I am taking some time off to rest, relax and prepare for my ministry with you. This time off has given Geri and me the opportunity to worship with our son and his family at their church in Pine Grove. Our son and his wife have two children, a two-year-old son and an eight-week-old daughter. It was communion Sunday. As the elders brought the communion elements down the aisle, my granddaughter was quietly sleeping on my lap. As the tray of bread was passed down our pew, my not-so-quiet two-year-old grandson said out loud, “Sandwich?” When the cups of wine were passed, he said, “Medicine?” We smiled as we communed with Christ and one another, recognizing that our grandson was in the early stages of faith development and learning about the practices and traditions of the church. In many ways I will be like my grandson as we begin our ministry together. I will be asking many questions as I seek to learn about the practices and traditions of St. Paul’s. Please, ask questions of me. My hope is to have several events planned to help us do just that. St. Paul’s has an exciting future ahead of it with many opportunities for growth in faith and mission and ministry in the name of Christ. I am excited about serving as your pastor in this next chapter in the life of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. You all remain in my prayers and I ask for your prayers as I begin my ministry with you in October. Shalom, |
